Without The Highs And The Lows, Where Would We Go

A few random shots from a night spent in with my mom, little sister Fiona, and the kitties. We ate french bread & cheese, california rolls, and drank organic strawberry lemonades while watching old movies in bed. Our cat's names are Creampuff and Dipstick, they're brother and sister and were born at our old house so we've raised them since they were babies. Even the most anti-cat people can't help but love them because they're so sweet and affectionate, they even play with my puppy Ava. Though you can't quite see much of what I'm wearing and it was a lazy night in, I'm wearing my absolute favorite pull-over hoodie. Not only is it purple (my favorite color), but the small details make it so different and unique. It's from the Miss Me Collection, and it's so comfortable I could live in it.

It's a beautiful day, so I'm off to the beach to lounge in the sun and play in the waves. Hope every one's summers are going great and filled with sunshine and happiness!

WILD Fall 2010

"These are the kind of girls who hang dream catchers above their beds, who eat pomegranates, and read old history books for fun. These are the kind of girls who take pictures of their hands with disposable cameras and wallpaper their bathrooms with pretty roses. These girls sketch eyes and mouths and little drawings all over things, they look you right in the eye and almost through you when you speak to them."
"These girls camp out in their backyards for fun, they light candles everywhere, and if you visit them at home they usually have all sorts of animals. Their wardrobes are filled with silk robes and bows and hats, they drink tall glasses of milk and snack on chocolate while they watch the sun rise. These are the kind of girls who ride bikes through the city to the cinema that plays old movies in the middle of the day. They watch "Breakfast at Tiffany's" or "Rosemary's Baby". These are the kind of girls who are quiet in public."
"These were the kind of girls who always believed in unicorns, they believed in the power of love and dreams. They were the kind of girls that gazed out of windows at bigger worlds, and rain made them think of faeries and tree houses. In the Summer they read Jane Austen and listened to Fleetwood Mac while sipping cold tomato juice."
"They were the kind of girls who put too many marshmallows in their hot chocolate, and when the snow came down, they lit the fire and pretended to be in the North Pole. They would water color things they couldn't see and eat French Toast for lunch."

We all have a little magic within us; something wild and uninhibited.

My Happiness Was When I Was Young And We Didn't Give A Damn, Cause We Were Raised To See Life As Fun And Take It If We Can

Dress- Collective Concepts, Headband and Sunglasses- vintage, Misc. Jewelery- thrifted, vintage, and from a number of local boutiques, Shoes- Nine West

On Top of Dresser- glass jar with colorful stones collected from local beaches; mineral soaps in rose petal and lavender; photo of my mom, my sisters, and I; vintage woven basket filled with assorted head bands and hair accessories; vintage engraved jewelery box filled with treasures; assorted bracelets, vintage sunnies, and grandpa's old watch; faerie bottle incense burner; Corsica Voluspa Kukui & Shea Butter body moisturizer

Well the time has come for a much over-due outfit post. I'm a huge fan of anything grey black or white, and as much as I try to avoid it, these three basic colors tend to be what I gravitate to the majority of the time. When I come across something in one of these colors that just has a little something extra however, I MUST have it. This flowy grey dress is loose and fitted in all the right places, is amazingly comfortable (very important to me), and is open on the sides. You can pair it with almost anything, but sadly I seem to forget it's existence in the back of my wardrobe, like many things I own. When I came across it today while trying to somewhat get my closet in order, I was reunited with the soft fabric and the realization of just how wearable it is.

It's so beautiful outside today, I don't want to let it waste away so I'm going to lounge outside in the local park under a big shady tree with a good book and a tall glass of iced tea. Going to do my best to get some more outfit posts coming!

Oh We Try And Remember Hazy Days

There are few people in the celebrity and pop-culture world that I come across and that I believe have an interesting personal style that's all their own. There are plenty who most likely have stylists and put together some amazing outfits, and who have access to all the biggest and brightest lines out there; however someone who stands out from the crowd and dresses for him/herself is a rare find. Alexa Chung is one of the few who never fails to wow with her knack for layering prints, accessorizing an outfit, and mixing vintage pieces with new ones. Not only does she have a style that's all her own, but she has the wit and the personality to pull it off and draw others in as well.

Though I'm doing my best to live in the now, and as I've stated before I have a great love for the freedom and styles that go along with summer; there are quite a few looks of the up-and-coming seasons that I'm drooling over. Come Fall I'll be all about the military jacket mixed in with more girlish pieces, LOTS of layers and (one of my absolute favorite accessories) scarves, lace up boots and chunky platform booties with socks, and not to mention the come back of the tights (which never fails to dress up an outfit just a bit). Fall, in my opinion, is also one of the best seasons for thrifting and getting your hands on great vintage finds. I can't wait to come across some over-sized knits and the perfect leopard pull over.

Something along these lines...a girl can dream right?

Well, luckily it's one of the first sunny days in quite some time. I'll be finishing my cup of coffee while simultaneously attempting to apply some kind of makeup (which I rarely tend to bother with these days). Then I'm out for a day with a long lost friend of mine who's back in town! Couldn't be more excited. Hope you're all enjoying your day, and I'd love if you would let me know what some of your Fall must-haves are.

Flickering Lights

Whimsical & Free

Some days I wish I could just disappear into a secret garden or be carried away with the wind. I've always had a fascination for fairies and all things whimsical and one with the earth. I believe it's important to keep childhood beliefs and magic alive within one's self; it can really help to fill you with the strength and faith you need to push through the negative things in life and reach for the light at the end of the tunnel.

"Weep for yourself, my man,

you'll never be what is in your heart
weep little lion man,
you're not as brave as you were at the start
rate yourself and rake yourself,
take all the courage you have left
wasted on fixing all the problems
that you made in your own head
tremble for yourself, my man,
you know that you have seen this all before
tremble little lion man,
you'll never settle for any of your scores
your grace is wasted in your face,
your boldness stands alone among the wreck
learn from your mother or else spend your days biting your own neck"

Freer than a raindrop, fallin' from the sky

Long days filled with question and worry; contemplations regarding the future and a past riddled with doubt.
Letting go is hard, I've been through the pain before, I'm stronger now and more prepared for the storm.

Past day and a half has been a mess of hurt and one of the hardest experiences of my life, keeping a clear mind and a happy face seems to be the most difficult aspects. I feel like people can see the cracks in my exterior, and being one who tends to wear her heart on her sleeve makes it near impossible to keep my feelings and inner-battles buried. However, taking what I've learned from past troubles, I know keeping things hidden isn't the answer. I'm just truly so thankful to have a support system around me and a loving family to turn to in times like these. Doing my best to keep my chin up and keep pushing through the struggles and (for lack of a better word) bullshit. It's funny how a few details can change the way you look at everything; but I refuse to lay down and die. I'm a fighter, and I won't let the current pull me down without a battle. Til things take a turn for the better..
I'll be searching for answers in the stars..

Though I'm yearning for the knits and layers of Fall, I know I'll be sad to let go of the playful-yet-casual looks of Summer. I'm seriously digging stripes paired with different hues of tangerine. (and how amaaazing are Miss Bilson's clutch and shoes?!)

And who can complain about the lip color?

I'm A Satellite Heart, Lost In The Dark

A Thousand Miles From Who I Want To Be, But I'm Not Dead Yet, I'm Still Breathing
Impatiently,               I Exist

Dreaming of running through a field of flowers, hopes sky high, fears lost with the wind; endless days of hand holding and a sky filled with purple clouds & lingering laughter. Running to the edge of all desires, nothing can stop us now..

We need to open our eyes to the world outside,
we give up on dreams
just to watch our souls die.

Embracing the unknown, letting our inner spirit roam..let your wishes fly and follow where they go.

Freedom is but a state of mind
And happiness an eternal calling

Watching warm memories through a glass panelled door, yearning for yesterday and losing yourself to regret
Forgetting to grasp this moment and hold on tight before it slips through time and becomes but an after-thought
It is easy to be fearful and cower away from the leap
If only we could all let our guards down, live as one with the earth
Dream without limits, and Love without end

Follow your heart, Embrace your inner-child, And let your imagination soar

It's hypnotic, isn't it?

Well, as I've already stated a number of times a long with my love of fashion and all things vintage, I am quite the movie lover; and when I find a movie that captures all of these things I'm thrilled to say the least. I'm of course a big fan of the 80's and all the movies of the decade, so when I stumbled upon the 1987 comedy Roxanne with Steve Martin and Daryl Hannah I was surprised I hadn't seen or heard of it previously.

I've always loved both Steve Martin and Daryl Hannah and have been a fan of many of their movies, so I was more than excited to see them in a comedy together. The movie was definitely not what I expected, but I loved the quirkiness and sweet moments captured between some of the characters. On top of that, Daryl Hannah's outfits were all so adorable and care-free - many tailored pieces paired with loose flowy tops in neutral colors and over sized men's ware a long with some adorable boots and accessories (and not to mention the dewy barely-there makeup and perfectly careless tousled hair). Now the problem is, I've looked everywhere for movie stills to include and there were close to none available. So, I thought I'd put together a little grouping of pieces inspired by the looks seen in the movie.

1. Neon Lights silk top- available for $265 at polyvore.com
2. Karen Walker 'helter skelter' sunnies- $225
3. White Present flower ribbon pearl bracelet- $108
4. Go Green eco-friendly Amanda sheer tank- $38
5. Stella by Miss Kg ankle boots- $99
6. Freda grey trouser pants- $520
7. Fimo black rose tassel drop earrings- $11
8. Chloe cream blazer- found available for $640 at polyvore.com
9. Siesta by Carvela leather boots- $245
10. Floral Emb silk robe- $38

Hope everyone is having an amazing day, I'm off to do some sketching over a cup of tea with some good tunes and my pup to keep me company.

Someone like you and all you know and how you speak..

Another cloudy day, and it seems no matter how many cups of coffee I consume I can't snap out of this daze that's seems to have come over me since waking this morning. Somewhere lost between daydreaming and being carried away by the music and lyrics of my newly updated play list. I'm actually about to head out on a bike ride to see if some fresh air will clear my mind of the haziness; but thought I'd post a few things I'm currently lovinn at the moment before I take off.

Somewhat of a strange combination between 90's grunge and antiquey-boho (?)...

Most if not all of these pieces are quite different from each other; but I love each and every single one of them for different reasons and I'm actually really into the idea of taking individual items that are completely different looks and styles (and even prints) and pairing them with each other to make a look that's truly unique and all your own. I mean, what's fashion without a risk or two?

1. Pamela Love sterling silver cross ring- $230
2. Velvet tyedye tee- $145
3. Asos corsage boater hat- $47
4. Dizzy Heights fringed dress- $193
5. Divine Rights of Denim boyfriend shorts- $50
6. Florentine gold & precious stone ring- $175
7. Linda Farrow X Alexander Wang sunnies- $325
8. Indigo Child vintage coin necklace- $39
9. Miu Miu suede clog sandals- $197
10. H by Henry Holland bf blazer with polka dot detail- $68
11. Rebel Yell unruly romper- $99
12. Sprayed Core grey scarf- $68
13. Matt and Nat commix bucket bag- $230
14. Floral Doc Marten's- $130

Until I get some updated outfit pictures for a post, I thought I'd include some taken a month or so a go while my sister and I were messing around with her new Hipstamatic app on her i-phone; for those of you out there as obsessed with the look of vintage Polaroids and photographs as I am, it's definitely something you should check out (if you have an i-phone that is).

wearing:
FT tyedye denim button up, Spy-c sheer grey pocket top, thrifted black skinny jeans, thrifted jewelery and black clip in flower, vintage black lace up boots(not pictured)

I was feeling lazy and it was a gloomy day spent at the movies seeing SITC2 with my mom, but I just love the worn look Hipstamatic adds to pictures taken with it; and what's even cooler is that they have numerous settings and effects available to play around with. Sweeeeeetttt.

Currently listening to: The Execution of All Things by Rilo Kiley
Most recently watched: The ladies of The Real Housewives of New Jersey getting buckwildd (guilty pleasure)
Currently obsessing over: a black jersey maxi skirt on TopShop..want.love.need.
Dreaming of: Tahiti and all things paradise with a pinch of adventure
Craving: Cranberry chicken salad from local cafe' with EXTRA peppercinis on the side and blackberry iced tea. YUM.
Current fav. jewelery item: tie between my new tribal looking ring that takes up an entire finger (and was also a STEALLL at 4 bucks) and my amethyst stone necklace that was a gift from my brother last Christmas
Loving: all things cropped, turquoise, sheer, and fringed
Currently wearing: sheer black tank, thrifted grey cotton shorts with pockets, my teeeny vintage silver and black rope watch, and a bun on the top of my head. Gotta love lazy daysss.

Well I should really get going on my bike ride before I lose all lingering traces of enthusiasm over the idea; I've really been having a lot of fun with the posts even though at the moment I feel just a little bit like I'm the only one seeing or reading them, but hey all things take time and I did just start this thing. I know it's going to take me a while to get the hang of it, but if anyone out there feels like giving me some feedback- please do! Don't hold back!

Now I'll leave off with this Nylon TV + Kristen Stewart short; it's a bit old (from back in February when she was featured on the cover), but I'm still all about it. A lot of people have mixed feelings and opinions about her, but I for one think she is bad ass (and yes i did just say bad ass). I mean c'mon people, can you imagine for a second how it feels to be in her shoes? All the craziness and pandemonium that has suddenly enveloped her life? In my opinion she seems real, grounded, down to earth, and wise beyond her years; she's definitely not like most stars and actors of our generation, and to me that's a good- no, a great thing. So here's to the individuals like Kristen who aren't afraid to be true to themselves and stand out from the crowd.

The Horses Are Coming So You Better Run

Okay, so am I the only person who gets giddy with excitement every time i see this trailer? Can't wait..

I got a little carried away and lazily made a silly collage inspired by the magnificent locations and beauty I've taken from the few previews and stills of the movie I've seen so far..warning you now-it's nothing special, but I'm dying over all the stone rings I stumbled upon on google images..

all misc. photos, google images

Told you it was silly, but I can't wait for the movie-and I love the song Dog Days Are Over by Florence & The Machine from the trailers, it's such a feel good song that you can't help singing along to. If you haven't read the book yet, I most definitely recommend it; kinda makes me want to take a spur of the moment trip around the world...if only. Til then, I'll keep dreaming!

Well I am very pleased to say that Inception not only met up to my hopes, but far exceeded them- it was amazing! We all know that you can't go wrong with Leo as a lead in any movie, it seems his ability to portray an array of characters and emotions only grows stronger with each role; but what I was really looking forward to experiencing was the story line, supporting roles, and the movie as a whole. The preview's visual dynamics really got my anticipation stirring from the moment i saw the first teaser all the way to when the extended trailer was released; but at times movies don't live up to the hype and sadly you come to the realization that they piled all the best and most exciting moments into those two minutes of previews. Not this time my friends! The story was incredibly fascinating and kept me on the edge of my seat the entire movie not losing my focus or interest for even the slightest moment (and on top of all of this, I saw the movie in IMAX which was my first time experiencing the intense surround sound, crystal clear picture, and amazingly comfortable seats-definitely worth the extra dough). Aside from the mind-bending suspense, Leo's incredible acting ability as Dom Cobb, and a plot that left you second guessing every other moment (you definitely need to pay attention to all the details or you'd easily get lost along the way), I was completely captivated with Ellen Paige as Ariadne, I've always loved her, but was questioning her ability to keep up with the acting chops of someone as experienced as Mr. DiCaprio. However, she did an amazing job and really added something extra to the movie. I loved every minute of it and cannot wait to see it again! Movie lovers, please go experience this story of redemption, espionage&action, and the immersion into the infinite world of dreams yourselves and tell me what you thought!

On another note, I think I must have jinxed the weather, because it seems we have suddenly been thrown back into the pits of summer gloom. On top of that, it's still quite hot outside and with the added clouds and moisture hanging in the air, the humidity is nearly unbearable. I've been hiding out in my room most of the day with the fan on it's highest setting and a nice tall glass of iced tea to keep me company. I've been contemplating going to the local thrift stores to see what loot i could come up on, but this weather isn't quite getting me enthusiastic over the idea; plus I have lots of website work to get done this evening and hopefully a visit from the best friend who I've been missing dearly (pictured on the right of me in the Polaroid above).

With all the summer music festivals going on, there have been quite a number of adorable looks to stay cool and casual in the heat; here are a few that I loved from the Glastonbury festival.

Oh how I'm loving the sheer Topshop tank & Doc's in the first photo, the Acne biker jacket in the second, and the entire look in the third. I'm especially digging that tribal-esque necklace and those Zara sandals.

All in all, this summer has been one of the best in quite a while, I'm loving the R&R and the little things each day, such as getting to spend a load of time with my youngest sister who always keeps me laughing and entertained, grilling up delicious dinners in the backyard with the fam, and making s'mores late at night over our fire pit with the smell and sounds of a summer evening filling the air. I hope everyone else is enjoying their summers equally, and not forgetting to revel in the moment and enjoy the small moments of happiness.

Now I'll leave you with this spoof trailer for Dora the Explorer in Incepcion, hope it makes you laugh or at least crack a smile!
