on a real note,

I had somewhat of a wake up call the day before yesterday..so to speak. Though I haven't elaborated much about it here (which is something I'm working to change!), I am a huge advocate for any and all efforts towards saving our planet before it's too late. Saving it from becoming a shell of a world, wasted away and lifeless, and run by people consumed with greed and materialism. For the most part, I like for my blog to be a place full of positivity and inspiration so I try to avoid any topics that are too controversial. However, every now and then there comes an issue that you're passionate enough about to want to share with others. I know it's quite ironic and rather hypocritical, being that I myself am guilty of buying (much more than necessary) and indulging in things that are of no real substance or importance. The problem is, we all are. We are products of our environment, and it's unfortunate that society today has become obsessed with the idea of 'having it all', always wanting 'more', never satisfied, always ignorant. I've tried to cut back drastically on my wastefulness (turning the water off while brushing my teeth, always turning lights off, not leaving appliances plugged in, etc.) and do my best to maintain a healthy lifestyle and diet; but I could still try harder to be mindful of the repercussions of my careless habits.

On Monday my sister and I watched a movie that was recommended to me on my Netflix queue. I was extremely sceptical when first reading the title, 2012: Time for Change, but was curious to learn more after reading the small description. After it was over, I felt so inspired to make positive change in whatever small way possible (more about that later..) that I wanted everyone else to feel the same way. I didn't agree with every single opinion expressed in the movie, but the over all message is what stuck. We need to reconnect with nature and stop living these self destructive and unacceptable lifestyles, because even if it may not seem like it now; what we do to the earth, we do to ourselves. We only have one planet, and it's home to each and every one of us. If that's not worth fighting for, than I don't know what is.

(I promise it's not another apocolyptic-attempt-to-scare-and-fill-with-paranoia themed piece of crap)

(boyfriend's birthday wish, fog and pumpkins at the farm, niaz's nails, my sister at work, creepy antique mall trinkets, face painting at the pumpkin patch, spell book, playing with light, farm cat, antique mall wandering, lounah love, kings cup, zombie sister, Halloween feast, farmhouse, witches' brew, costume craziness)

It's getting colder and colder, and I'm slowly succumbing to the fact that Winter is just around the corner. Denial can't stop the seasons from changing; or make short shorts and Summer dresses acceptable when its 50 degrees outside for that matter. I mean, really? Since when did a 48 degree morning become a normal occurrence in Southern California. No weather my a$$.

sunday;inspiration

Sundays are for;

leaving the bed unmade

the smell of fresh coffee and cinnamon rolls

reading weathered novels under the covers

dozing off to the sound of rain

a crackling fire place

an over sized knit and knee high socks

sleepy murmurs of affection

a room alight with flickering candles

Sundays are for lovers,
Sundays are for dreamers

dressUP

I love to dress up; as if that wasn't already obvious what with my tendency to dress rather costumey and impulse to wear wigs at the most inappropriate of times-but hey, Halloween is just a day that makes all of that ridiculousness and fun acceptable. What's not to love about that? This year, I really hadn't planned anything to dress up as. In a last minute scramble, my thoughts went to my ever expanding (& changing) inspiration folders on my desktop. Lately they've been over flowing with shots of classic 90's No Doubt era Gwen Stefani. Mix in a little Hindu goddess vibe, a turquoise wig, & fist fulls of rings and you get...this? Scary movies, acting like a kid, and then topping the night off with your typical run of the mill candy overdose and a rather boisterous game of kings cup? Even a sorcerer couldn't have concocted a better Halloween muahahahaha.
Okay, too far.

p.s. my sister kinda cajoled (oooh, fancy, l o l z) me into posting that first photo since I "never posting any pictures where I'm smiling"...apparently. I guess that's kinda true, but I feel pretty damn ridiculous forcing myself to smile when it's not natural. So it's only those rare candid shots that capture me smiling genuinely that I can stand. Make sense, kinda? okay, enough rambling.

SO, this past Monday (Halloween) my sisters and I got all snuggled on the couch to watch Teen Witch and other nostalgia inducing Halloweeny movies, (Hocus Pocus, Practical Magic, The Witches of Eastwick, Halloweentown..yes, even Halloweentown.) as we do every year. It's such a classic, and the cheesy background music and random outbursts of song and dance make it even more perfect. I couldn't really find any proper photos of the outfits she was wearing that my sisters and I were dyyyin over; but this little video clip shows a few of them!
The things I would do to have that embellished denim vest....

LikeCrazy

Words cannot express how excited I am to see this movie. Such a great group of young talent, and even this short bit of a trailer is emotionally powerful. Don't judge, but I may have shed a tear (or five) after watching it. It's been a minute since I've posted any trailers, let alone anything movie related. I kinda miss it. Thoughts?

it's,a,new,day

(wearing: vintage crop tank, thrifted shorts, f21 long sweater vest & necklaces)

This past week was a whirlwind of celebrations, laughter, time spent with loved ones, and life long memories made. I truly realized how lucky I am to be surrounded by such amazing and uplifting people who want me to succeed and who make my life so full. This blog is just one more aspect of my life that has allowed me to grow, and share my experiences with others. I have made many friendships with readers and bloggers alike, and all of your encouragement and kind words mean more to me than you know. They inspire me to keep pushing forward and striving towards my goals; and I could never thank you enough for that.

Hope everyone had a sugar high fueled Halloween..with a dash of costume and a side of scary movie. Wow that was lame. But it's 12:55 am and I just walked up the stairs in a trance after falling asleep on the couch while watching a Bad Girls Club rerun..aka I'm pretty sure I'm half asleep. Irresponsible blogging at it's finest. oh wellllpp.
