on a real note,
I had somewhat of a wake up call the day before yesterday..so to speak. Though I haven't elaborated much about it here (which is something I'm working to change!), I am a huge advocate for any and all efforts towards saving our planet before it's too late. Saving it from becoming a shell of a world, wasted away and lifeless, and run by people consumed with greed and materialism. For the most part, I like for my blog to be a place full of positivity and inspiration so I try to avoid any topics that are too controversial. However, every now and then there comes an issue that you're passionate enough about to want to share with others. I know it's quite ironic and rather hypocritical, being that I myself am guilty of buying (much more than necessary) and indulging in things that are of no real substance or importance. The problem is, we all are. We are products of our environment, and it's unfortunate that society today has become obsessed with the idea of 'having it all', always wanting 'more', never satisfied, always ignorant. I've tried to cut back drastically on my wastefulness (turning the water off while brushing my teeth, always turning lights off, not leaving appliances plugged in, etc.) and do my best to maintain a healthy lifestyle and diet; but I could still try harder to be mindful of the repercussions of my careless habits.
On Monday my sister and I watched a movie that was recommended to me on my Netflix queue. I was extremely sceptical when first reading the title, 2012: Time for Change, but was curious to learn more after reading the small description. After it was over, I felt so inspired to make positive change in whatever small way possible (more about that later..) that I wanted everyone else to feel the same way. I didn't agree with every single opinion expressed in the movie, but the over all message is what stuck. We need to reconnect with nature and stop living these self destructive and unacceptable lifestyles, because even if it may not seem like it now; what we do to the earth, we do to ourselves. We only have one planet, and it's home to each and every one of us. If that's not worth fighting for, than I don't know what is.
(I promise it's not another apocolyptic-attempt-to-scare-and-fill-with-paranoia themed piece of crap)

SO, this past Monday (Halloween) my sisters and I got all snuggled on the couch to watch Teen Witch and other nostalgia inducing Halloweeny movies, (Hocus Pocus, Practical Magic, The Witches of Eastwick, Halloweentown..yes, even Halloweentown.) as we do every year. It's such a classic, and the cheesy background music and random outbursts of song and dance make it even more perfect. I couldn't really find any proper photos of the outfits she was wearing that my sisters and I were dyyyin over; but this little video clip shows a few of them!
The things I would do to have that embellished denim vest....

Words cannot express how excited I am to see this movie. Such a great group of young talent, and even this short bit of a trailer is emotionally powerful. Don't judge, but I may have shed a tear (or five) after watching it. It's been a minute since I've posted any trailers, let alone anything movie related. I kinda miss it. Thoughts?

Vogue U.S. January 2011
So I ventured out into the rain yesterday along with my mom and sisters to watch Black Swan (which I've been dying to see since the moment the first trailer was released). I've always been a huuuuuge Natalie Portman fan & was extremely excited to see her in a role that was so different from her typical part and pushed the boundaries. After hearing all of the hype and talking to friends who either loved or hated it, I was anxious to see what this dark psychological thriller was all about. Let's just say it did NOT disappoint. AMAZZZINNNG! The creep factor and eeriness was definitely taken to new extremes compared to other movies of it's nature, but it's almost in a genre/class of it's own. Natalie was so astonishingly believable and insanely good (insanely being the operative word here haha) that I truly think she may nab an Oscar for her spot on portrayal of ballerina-pushed-to-the-edge Nina Sayers. Along with amazing performances by Mila Kunis as free spirited dancer and rival Lily and Barbara Hershey as Nina's ex-dancer semi-psychotic & creepily obsessive mother Erica- I think Darren Aronofsky just struck gold with this artistic and mind blowing masterpiece.

"You wouldn't believe how it is"
Sunday night after watching Dexter (one of my favorite shows), my boyfriend and I headed to the movies to see Hereafter. We stopped by Cold Stone and I grabbed a cup of my favorite flavors (banana & cake batter, YUM) before catching a late showing of the new Clint Eastwood film. The story was beautiful and I absolutely loved the way the characters' lives intertwined and how heartfelt the portrayal of each individual was; it was almost as if you could connect to each one in some way. The night was surprisingly cold now that we seem to slowly be making our way into the midst of Autumn after weeks of heat waves and spastic weather. I wore my new flowy H&M dress which I'm absolutely in love with, I've been really drawn to soft & sheer materials in nude and blush tones lately. I love the look and contrast between light cream colored pieces mixed with dark and rugged accents.
What are your current favorites and must haves?

Two Movies Worth Anticipating
There are many great movies coming out this Holiday season, but a few stand out from the rest. Two that I have been dying to see are Conviction and True Grit. Both of these movies are brimming with top notch actors who have seemingly needed to transform themselves in some way or another to believably portray their character (by the looks of the trailers at least). This skill, in my opinion, is the true art of an actor; and to be able to in a sense become the person they are playing and to take their role in a movie and turn it into a story of their own that sweeps you away is something rare and hard to come by.
Conviction is the true story of Kenny and Betty Anne Waters, a brother and sister torn apart when Kenny is falsely accused of murder. After the pain of not only watching her brother be sent to jail for a crime he didn't commit, but finding out he attempted suicide, Betty Anne devotes her life to freeing her brother and clearing his name. She makes a pledge with him that in return for his patience, she will become a lawyer. The story is a heart wrenching mystery and truly shows the strength and love behind the undying bond between a sister and a brother.
True Grit is the story of a tenacious and witty young girl named Mattie Ross who's out to avenge her father's murder. She comes across an old Marshall named "Reuben J. Cogburn" and a young Texas Ranger named "La Beouf", and they join together to head out on an expedition to hunt down the man who killed her father in cold blood. The movie looks action packed and filled with moments that are sure to have you at the edge of your seat. With a cast that includes Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, and Josh Brolin; the movie is sure to be remarkable.
What are your thoughts on these movies?

So here we are coming to the end of October and Halloween is creeping closer with each passing day. One of my all time favorite movies to watch (especially near the creepiness and spook factor of Hallows Eve) is 90's classic The Craft. It really never gets old, which I think is mainly due to the magic and mayhem of the teenage witchery that takes place, I mean didn't we all kind of wish or partly believe we could cast a spell or have a little magic within us over the years? However, another huge part of the pull and intrigue of the movie is most definitely the prominence of dark, rebellious, flowy, and mysterious fashion and sense of style each of the girls had. Each one of the characters had a unique take and spin on the 90's grunge look, and I envied every single outfit as a young girl and even today. Current fashion seems to be taking some ideas and inspiration from the grunge and goth scene and adding modernized textures, prints, and colors to the mix for a more updated and easy to pull off style that I absolutely adore.

These photos were taken a couple nights ago when my boyfriend and I headed to the local movie theater to see Jackass 3D. It was so much fun and the movie was hilarious (and if you've seen it then you also know it was preetttyyy disgusting and disturbing at parts-but hey, what do you expect from a Jackass movie right?). I've been lovingg the rain and grey skies we've had over the past few days, it leaves the air brisk and clean and is perfect for movie days and trips to the bookstore or library with a steaming cup of coffee (mixed with hot chocolate is my preference for chilly days) to keep you company. It seems all I've been wearing lately is a lot of menswear and clunky boots; easy to throw on and mix and match when you're a procrastinator like me and push getting dressed to moments before running out the door. However, I've had my Birthday dress just sitting idly in my closet for months and my anticipation for wearing it will soon come to an end with the big day just around the corner. It's an amazing vintage piece with cut outs, and that's all the details I'll give for now because I'm sure to take loads of pictures to share so you can get the full effect.
Hope everyone else is enjoying this change in the weather as much as I am !

"There's nothing wrong with dreams"
So I've seen quite a few movies over the past month, some of which were good and some of which were surprisingly GREAT. One movie that caught me off guard and wound up much exceeding my expectations was The Town, directed by Ben Affleck (who also played the lead as Doug MacRay). The movie looked good enough from the trailers, but the story line along with the acting chops of not only Ben Affleck and many others, but up-and-comer Jeremy Renner who's believability and portrayal of James Coughlin took the movie to another level. Even Blake Lively, who of course I am a fan of but was kinda doubting her ability to earnestly portray a drug addicted mother who is a victim of environment, did an unbelievable job in the moments of agony and desperation. The movie was fast paced and held true to it's promise of action and many twists and turns, but it also had moments of hilariousness and passion fueled thrill. This is definitely my top pick for movies of the moment, and Ben Affleck definitely earned some credibility in the directing department with this amazingly crafted story within a film.
I also just recently saw my first 3-D IMAX movie, and it definitely lived up to the hype. I saw The Legend of The Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole; and let me be the first to say that this is much more than a movie for the kids. I actually saw this on a date with my boyfriend, and we were both completely entranced by the movie in it's entirety, but even more so with each unique character and their drive, passion, and sheer belief of the possibilities within each individual's grasp. It's a quality many of us lose once we grow past childhood, but its movies and stories like these that reignite that dormant fire within us; that push us to believe and imagine and have hope for the future. I'd definitely have to say that the extra bucks it costs to see the movie in IMAX 3D are well worth it.
If you've seen either of these movies, let me know what you thought of them; and if you haven't-then you better get on thaaatt !

fashionshow photos- an original shredded tee made by me, DIY headband, F21 cross locket necklace, Eunina black skinnys, vintage black boots, misc. vintage, thrifted, and handmade bracelets and rings
This Friday my boyfriend Gil and I took off on a little road trip down to the Gaslamp District in San Diego for his sister Tania's Paul Mitchell hair and fashion show for a cause (which was breast cancer-always something I love to support in any way possible) at the Se` hotel. It was a beautiful hotel with the most amazing decor, our room was so nice and overlooked the pool/cabana area below, and for some reason the lobby had the most amazing scent to it (yes I know, sounds weird, but seriously-it was heavenly). The fashion show took place out on the patio and they had the runway set up across the pool on the fourth floor over looking the city lights and the hustle and bustle of the streets below. It was such a great time and Tania's models looked amazing !
On top of all of the fun we had, the show drew in a huge crowd
and I'm sure they made tons of money for the cause.
On a side note, the websites almost up! I am beyond excited about all the many things that have been going on lately and all that's still to come. Life is truly full of blessings and opportunities; I've had some low moments, but in order to get to the high points I now understand you have to push through the adversities to reach your full potential. You truly can reach whatever goal you set your heart on, as long as your willing to put in the work.
I hope this month brings happiness and good fortune to us all;
I mean, October is my favorite month..let the fun and festivities begin!

90's lovinn
So we all know that bits and pieces of 90's inspired style have slowly been creeping their way back into fashion and back into our closets. Though many a person dread the return of any and all 90's attire, I for one embrace it. One movie from the early nineties that has always been a favorite of mine is Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead. Not only is it hilarious and a tad cheesey, but Christina Applegate's style in the movie is beyyonnddd. All of the oversized blazers, flowy dresses mixed with tailored pieces, prints, layers of jewelery, and so on- I love it all.
Couldn't find too many photos, but if you haven't seen this movie-it's a must!
